Your idname, permname, or permanent name is a secondary username tied to your account that acts a permanent identifier. Unlike your your regular username, you cannot make a change to your idname without personally making a request to an administrator. Your idname can be used in a variety of places and it provides a way for other members to always refer to your account without having to find out what your current username is.

Both your idname and username can be the same but others cannot pick a username that is the same as your idname. In most places that you can use an idname, you can either an idname or a username and so the two obviously cannot clash (unless they are of the same person).

Registering an idname

You can register an idname at Account Services. Remember that once you register a name, the system will not let you make a change.

If you ever forget your idname, you can always return to that page and it will tell you what your idname is.

Using your idname

Currently, idnames can be used:

  • on the KAF Wiki (here) and the community wiki
    • (regular usernames do not work there)
  • when logging in
  • when entering the names of members to send private messages to
